The Raj Palace wins the World travel award and the National tourism award for the best heritage hotel

The Minister of Tourism & Culture Smt. Ambika Soni presided over the function. MS ANKUR RARA ( General Manager The Raj Palace ) and MR. Jagdish Bhist ( Financial controller The Raj Palace ) received the award for The Raj Palace in the category of "Best Heritage Hotel in India" .

Jaipur, December 17, 2007: Jaipur's night sky burst into a thousand bursts of fireworks as Smt Vasundhara Raje, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, turned the spotlight on The Raj Palace when she unveiled the World's Leading Luxury Heritage Hotel Award received by the hotel in the Caribbean on December 12 at The World Travel Awards ceremony. Addressing a very select gathering of the travel industry's who's who and national and travel media, Smt Raje said, "By going where no Indian hotel has gone before, the Raj Palace had done the country and, indeed, the State proud. This Oscar of the travel industry award for 'The Leading and the Best Heritage Hotel in the World' has not only added a feather in our cap but also put India's hospitality sector on the global map for the first time," she further said while felicitating Shri Arun Puri, Managing Director of GKV Hotels Pvt. Ltd, which owns the property. Thanking the Chief Minister, Arun Puri said, "This highest recognition and honour for the travel fraternity would not have been possible without the support of the Government of Rajasthan and the dynamic Incredible India! campaign that has been tremendously instrumental in capturing the world's attention." Going on, he said, "the award would have been unachievable without my wife, Jayendra Kumari's brave imagination and vision, which has catapulted us to this height." The trophy, which arrived in the city on December 16, 2007, has been attracting big trade and media attention. A representative from The Raj Palace had received the leading international award in a glitzy ceremony on December 12 when 330 travel professionals representatives, VIPs as well as international media from 30 countries from across the globe converged on the Caribbean island of Providenciales, Turks & Caicos for the 14th Annual World Travel Awards Gala Ceremony where this year's world winners were finally crowned.The Raj Palace was voted the 'World's Best' by 167,000 travel professionals worldwide, including 110,000 travel agents. This accolade has come to India for the very first time in this category. Hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the "Travel Industry's Oscars", the World Travel Awards are the most comprehensive and prestigious awards programme in the global travel industry today. Attended by the captains of industry, the World Travel Awards' ceremonies are highly regarded as the forum that serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate the enormous achievements in all sectors of the global travel industry. Raj Palace, located on the Amber Road near the Zorawar Singh Gate, isn't exactly unknown to celebrities, having hosted Fredrick Forsyth, Dominic La Pierre and film stars from Hollywood and Bollywood the hotel itself has been in operation for 10 years. HH Gaj Singh of Jodhpur, President of the Heritage Hotels Association of India, presided over the function. Jayendra Kumari, the grand daughter of Thakur Raj Singh of Chomu and the 16th generation of Rajasthan's Chomu royal family that built The Raj Palace in 1727.
